THE PUB: With autumn our lovely students migrate back to uni for the term but we thank them for all their hard work over the summer and look forward to their return at Christmas. Talking of such fun & festivities, Christmas menus are now ready and bookings are flying in. Whether it’s a party en famille, a business jolly or a friendly get together we can do it all! The restaurant for parties of up to 12; the Billiard Room for 10-30 and the function room for 30-100.
The inaugural Surrey Food & Farm Week Parrot & Butchers Hall Pie Competition was as grand as the title suggests. The number of entries for the pie judging was a little disappointing but the standard very high. However, we had a great turn out of hungry men (not one woman- this must be put right next year)for the Man Vs Pie eating challenge. Taymore, the Beast from the Middle East was the clear winner demolishing three and a half pies at a rate of one per minute. Mark Padberg came a strong second and The Parrot’s very own Ben R a very respectable third. Thanks to all who took part in this very silly affair. We raised over £200 for GRACE.
THE FARM: Our best Poll Dorset Ewes are being selected next week ready to be put to the ram in November. We chose to lamb rather later than many, avoiding the bitter cold and enabling us to lamb outside as we are very limited for barn space. As a result our ‘new season’ lamb is now ready-on the menu and in the shop and is marvellous!
We’ve had an expensive summer of tractors, toppers, telehandlers etc breaking down, fingers crossed that’s our run of bad luck over or we may consider going back to the horse power!
The pigs are enjoying the last few weeks in their summer abode before moving on to the harder ground for over wintering.
THE SHOP: Non stop fun! We have had a great summer & been fortunate enough to receive some great publicity. We know we have shouted about it quite a lot so a little bit more won’t hurt! We won the South East Deli of The Year, unfortunately we didn’t win the national award but we’re sure Delilah’s Deli in Nottingham are very worthy winners! There’s always next year.
‘Strike a pose!’ Butchers Hall has been featured in Vogue as the 33rd best shop outside London. We think this is pretty fantastic. We have also made recent appearances in the Dorking Ad and on the BBC Surrey breakfast show - Let’s hope the fun continues!
